Power of Attorney-Health Care

A Power of Attorney for Health Care is a legal document that allows the person you designate to make health care decisions for you should you be unable to make them yourself.

What if I don’t have a Power of Attorney for Health Care?

Because Missouri does not have a surrogacy law (aka “next of kin” law), if you do not have this document and are unable to handle your medical decisions, the court must appoint someone to act on your behalf and you may not have any say in who the court appoints.  This person can determine not only your medical affairs, but where and with whom you may live.
